At U Physio we offer Fibreglass casting for specific injuries.
Please note that we are not able to do ALL types of injury casting, you will require a consultation prior to booking a casting appointment so the treating Physiotherapist can determine what the best casting option is for you.
Fibreglass casting is a type of orthopaedic cast that is commonly used to immobilise and support injured bones or joints during the healing process. Unlike traditional plaster casts, which are made from plaster of Paris, fibreglass casts are made from a fibreglass material that is lightweight, durable, and water-resistant.
The process of applying a fibreglass cast involves wrapping layers of fibreglass tape around the affected limb, which are then soaked in water to activate the resin and harden the cast. Once the cast hardens, it provides rigid support to the injured area, helping to stabilise the bones and joints and promote proper healing.
Fibreglass casts are preferred by many healthcare professionals and patients due to their lightweight and breathable nature, which can help reduce discomfort and skin irritation associated with wearing a cast. Additionally, fibreglass casts are more durable and less likely to break or crack compared to plaster casts, allowing for greater mobility and fewer restrictions during the healing process.
It is important to follow the guidance of a healthcare professional in the application and care of a fibreglass cast to ensure proper healing and avoid complications.
